National Trails Day, Saturday, June 4th

Third Annual Walk the Locks National Trails Day Event!

Walk the Locks on the former Farmington Canal from northern Hamden into southern Cheshire. Begin at the Keeper’s House at Lock 14 in Hamden, where you can pick up a trail map, trail mix, and a drink and view an exhibit of the former canal and railroad. Then walk (or bike, blade, or jog) north to the Lock Keeper’s Museum at Lock 12 in Cheshire, a distance of 3 miles. Some spaces will be available in the leader’s vehicle to bring people back to the start, or participants can arrange their own shuttle or return via the same route for a total of 6 miles. Self-guided or leader accompanied (leader starts at 11:00 AM). Meet leaders Lisa Fernandez and Bill Horowitz at Lock Keeper’s House in Hamden, off of Whitney Avenue/Route 10 across the street from the Sleeping Giant Country Club and Aunt Chilada’s. Terrain is on a flat wide paved trail through picturesque mostly shaded suburban woods and farmland. Park on the gravel driveway.

We are proud to partner with the Connecticut Forest & Park Association for this official Connecticut Trails Day event!
