Temporary Detour in Plainville in July - Farmington Canal Heritage Trail street route

Northwest Drive in Plainville will be closed from MON, 6 JUL through FRI, 24 JUL for bridge deck replacement. This is a medium sized hiccup for cyclists using the trail during the busy summer months. We have looked at various alternatives for a detour during this closure, and the best (or least worst) we could suggest is to use US Route 6 between New Britain Ave. in Farmington and Farmington Ave. (CT Route 10) in Plainville.

Please note, US 6 is a main road with high volume of motor vehicles traveling at or above the posted speed limit of 45 mph. Fortunately, some of the detour route has wide shoulders, and negotiating traffic signals is fairly simple. Nonetheless, trail users are cautioned to be vigilant as they traverse the detour!
